In partnership with Let's Get Artsy

I know how intimidating it can feel to want your art to look more professional and not know how to get it there. I also know how discouraging it can feel to have the courage to try and then hit pitfalls with your tools and materials that end up making you feel stuck and lost in the process. I've created 3 online graphite drawing classes to help lead you past the pitfalls and straight to the tools and techniques that will elevate your artwork to the next level, all in an encouraging and straightforward way. With the right understanding of the tools and process, you CAN do it too!

I've partnered with Let's Get Artsy to offer these online classes to you in a fun and engaging way without breaking the bank. At the end of the classes, my goal is for you to have completed your very own amazing drawings and, more importantly, have the confidence and knowledge to create more drawings on your very own!

Intro to Dramatic Graphite Botanicals

In this beginner class, you’ll learn my tried and true method for transforming gray, one-note pencil drawings into dramatic graphite masterpieces, full of character and depth. I’m excited to share my easy to follow, step-by-step process that I’ve developed over a lifetime of drawing so that you can walk away feeling empowered to draw all of the flora and fauna that you discover and confident about what to do if you get stuck along the way.

You'll gain a better understanding of graphite pencils, paper types, erasers, and drawing techniques. I’ll also show you the best ways to create and source your own reference photos, edit them to set you up for success, and then transfer them to your drawing surface.

Blending Techniques for Naturalistic Graphite Drawing

In this Intermediate class, we’ll explore a variety of graphite blending tools and techniques that will give your drawings a beautifully blended look. This class builds upon the skills we learned in my first class, “Intro to Dramatic Graphite Botanicals” so if you’re just starting out or need a refresher in the basics, that class will be a really helpful precursor to this one.

You'll gain a better understanding of how graphite powder, blending sticks, pan pastel sponges, paintbrushes, makeup sponges, cotton balls, q-tips, and rags can be used to elevate your artwork to the next level. We’ll put these tools into practice with our 4 class projects. Starting out with a satisfyingly simple maple leaf, we’ll gradually increase the complexity as we draw and blend a Nautilus shell, a feather, and an improved version of the acorn from class 1.

Advanced texture for naturalistic graphite drawing class image with landscape drawings

Advanced Texture for Naturalistic Graphite Drawing

In this class, we’ll explore a variety of graphite tools and techniques that will help you achieve organic, natural looking texture in your landscape drawings. This is an advanced class that builds upon the skills we learned in my beginner class, “Intro to Dramatic Graphite Botanicals” and my intermediate class, “Blending Techniques for Naturalistic Graphite Drawing”.

I’ll be sharing some foundational knowledge about what makes a successful landscape scene so that you’ll have everything you need to feel empowered to create beautiful landscape drawings on your own, long after this class is over. We’ll be putting our newfound skills to the test with 3 landscape class projects: a light-filled grassy meadow with sunbeams bursting over the horizon, a craggy pine tree set against a backdrop of misty mountains, and a waterfall spilling over a cliffside and into a rocky stream.
