Watch How I Drew This Pinecone

I have a habit of collecting pinecones. I don't know why, but I dearly love them in all the shapes and sizes that they come in. One fall day, I was hiking through the woods around my home here in Virginia inspecting all of the fallen pinecones scattered on the ground, looking for any that had a particularly good shape and arrangement of cone scales. I came across this cone and decided to use it as a reference for the drawing. I wasn't trying to copy it scale for scale, but to use it more so as an example to help me capture the natural variations found within.

Watch the time lapse video below to see how I approached creating this colored pencil drawing.
